Overview

This 10-day journey begins among the international cityscapes of Hong Kong before continuing through modern Shenzhen and historic Guangzhou, then gradually transitioning into the spectacular natural landscapes and ethnic cultures of Guizhou.

Experience Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong’s cosmopolitan energy, Shenzhen’s modern waterfront character and Guangzhou’s centuries-old Lingnan heritage before travelling west into Guizhou.

Here, the journey shifts from city life to dramatic waterfalls, emerald karst landscapes and traditional minority villages. Explore Huangguoshu Waterfall, the forests and turquoise waters of Libo, the immense Miao community of Xijiang and the traditional Dong villages and rice terraces around Zhaoxing.

Connected by efficient high-speed rail and road transfers, the route follows a generally smooth direction with minimal unnecessary backtracking while combining urban exploration, outdoor scenery, regional culture and local traditions.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival in Guiyang

Upon arrival in Guiyang, your driver will meet you at the airport or railway station and arrange your transfer.

The remainder of the day is free for independent exploration.

You may visit Jiaxiu Tower, one of Guiyang’s best-known historic landmarks. Originally built during the Ming dynasty, the elegant pavilion stands above the Nanming River and has long been regarded as an important symbol of the city.

Continue through the surrounding Jiaxiu Tower Historic Cultural District, where traditional architectural elements meet contemporary cafés, shops and illuminated streets.

The evening offers a relaxed introduction to Guiyang’s urban atmosphere before the journey into Guizhou’s mountains and ethnic villages begins.

Day 2 | Xijiang Thousand-Household Miao Village

Travel to Xijiang Thousand-Household Miao Village, one of the most celebrated Miao settlements in Guizhou.

Begin by exploring the historic village streets, walking among traditional wooden stilted houses, old lanes and covered wind-and-rain bridges while discovering the architecture and everyday traditions of the Miao community.

Continue to the panoramic viewing area for sweeping views across thousands of wooden houses layered along the surrounding hillsides.

Later, explore the rural landscape around the village, where fields and mountain scenery form a peaceful contrast to the dense traditional settlement.

As evening falls, watch thousands of lights gradually illuminate the mountainside, creating one of Xijiang’s most distinctive night-time scenes.

Day 3 | Huangguoshu Waterfall Scenic Area

Travel to the spectacular Huangguoshu Scenic Area.

Begin at Doupotang Waterfall, known for its broad curtain of water and for appearing in the classic Chinese television adaptation of Journey to the West.

Continue to the Tianxing Bridge Scenic Area, where limestone formations, streams and lush vegetation create a distinctive karst environment.

Walk among natural stone landscapes and admire attractions such as Silver Chain Waterfall, where water cascades delicately over the rock formations.

Later, explore the magnificent Huangguoshu Waterfall.

View the waterfall from different levels and directions to appreciate its enormous scale and power. Depending on access conditions, visitors may also walk through the famous Water Curtain Cave behind the waterfall for a dramatically different perspective.

Day 4 | Libo Xiaoqikong Scenic Area

Travel to Libo Xiaoqikong, often described as the “Emerald on the Earth’s Belt” for its remarkable combination of turquoise water, forest and karst scenery.

Begin at Wolong Pool, where intensely blue-green water reflects the surrounding mountains and forest.

Continue to Yuanyang Lake, a peaceful water landscape surrounded by dense vegetation. An optional boating experience allows visitors to explore the maze-like waterways more closely.

Walk through the remarkable Water Forest, where streams flow directly among trees and limestone rocks.

Later, explore the 68-Level Waterfalls, Laya Waterfall and the iconic Xiaoqikong Ancient Bridge.

The century-old stone bridge resting above emerald water creates one of the most recognisable scenes in southern Guizhou.

Day 5 | Libo to Guiyang – Departure

Leave Libo and travel back towards Guiyang.

Along the way, enjoy final views of Guizhou’s rolling mountains and distinctive karst countryside.

Upon arrival in Guiyang, continue to the airport or high-speed railway station according to your onward travel arrangements.

This concludes the five-day journey through Guiyang, Xijiang, Huangguoshu and Libo, bringing together Guizhou’s ethnic culture, spectacular waterfalls and emerald mountain landscapes.
