Overview

This 10-day, 9-night journey combines the metropolitan energy of southern China with the spectacular landscapes and traditional culture of western Hunan.

Begin in Hong Kong, where Victoria Harbour, The Peak and the city skyline introduce the journey with a distinctly international atmosphere. Continue to Shenzhen for a relaxed experience of modern coastal city life before exploring Guangzhou’s historic streets, Lingnan architecture and local food culture.

The route then moves north to Changsha, a lively city known for its popular landmarks, street food and energetic nightlife, before continuing into the extraordinary landscapes of Zhangjiajie.

Spend several days exploring the towering sandstone peaks, deep valleys, forest trails and cloud-covered scenery of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Tianmen Mountain. The journey concludes in Fenghuang Ancient Town, where traditional riverside architecture and illuminated night scenery reveal the romantic character of western Hunan.

With a smooth south-to-north route and varied experiences throughout, the itinerary combines international cities, modern urban life, historic neighbourhoods, regional cuisine, world-class natural scenery and ancient-town culture.

Itinerary

Day 1 | Arrival in Hong Kong – Victoria Harbour & The Peak

Upon arrival in Hong Kong, your private guide will meet you outside the baggage claim area. During the transfer, your guide will introduce some of Hong Kong’s major attractions and their historical background.

If your arrival time permits, begin with a walk along the Victoria Harbour waterfront.

Visit Golden Bauhinia Square, the Avenue of Stars and Victoria Harbour, before exploring the lively commercial district of Causeway Bay.

In the late afternoon, ascend Victoria Peak for sweeping views across Hong Kong’s skyline.

As night falls, enjoy the spectacular illuminated harbour and the distinctive atmosphere of this international metropolis.

Day 2 | Hong Kong to Shenzhen

Leave Hong Kong and continue to Shenzhen.

Upon arrival at Shenzhen Airport or railway station, your driver will meet you and arrange the transfer.

If time allows, explore the fashionable MixC Shenzhen Bay shopping district, where contemporary retail, dining and urban architecture reflect the city’s modern character.

With additional time, visit Lianhua Mountain Park and enjoy panoramic views across the Futian CBD skyline.

Day 3 | Relaxed Shenzhen City Exploration

Enjoy a flexible and leisurely day discovering Shenzhen.

Visit Sea World, explore the fashionable streets and shopping areas around UpperHills or MixC World, and spend time taking photographs, browsing shops and discovering local cafés and restaurants.

The relaxed pace offers an opportunity to experience Shenzhen’s clean, energetic and contemporary coastal atmosphere.

In the evening, visit OH Bay, enjoy the waterfront sunset and ride the giant Ferris wheel.

After dark, admire the illuminated bay and modern city skyline.

Day 4 | Shenzhen to Guangzhou – Lingnan Culture

Travel from Shenzhen to Guangzhou by high-speed train.

After arrival, begin exploring this historic trading city and its distinctive Lingnan culture.

Walk along Beijing Road Pedestrian Street and explore the traditional streets of Shangxiajiu, where historic arcades, neighbourhood shops and old commercial streets preserve the character of Guangzhou.

Continue to Shamian Island, known for its tree-lined avenues and European-style historic architecture.

Along the way, sample traditional Cantonese dim sum, local desserts and regional snacks.

In the evening, enjoy the illuminated scenery along the Pearl River and experience Guangzhou’s relaxed night-time atmosphere.

Day 5 | Guangzhou to Changsha – Food & City Life

Leave Guangzhou and travel to Changsha.

Upon arrival at the airport or railway station, your driver will meet you and arrange the transfer.

After some time to settle in, visit Orange Isle, one of Changsha’s best-known city landmarks.

Continue to Wuyi Square, Huangxing Road Pedestrian Street and Pozi Street Food Street.

Explore the lively shopping and entertainment districts, sample local Hunan snacks and popular tea drinks, and experience the energetic atmosphere that has made Changsha one of China’s most talked-about urban destinations.

Day 6 | Changsha to Zhangjiajie – First Impressions of Western Hunan

Travel from Changsha to Zhangjiajie.

Upon arrival, your private guide will meet you and introduce the region’s most famous attractions and historical background during the transfer.

After some time to rest, explore the brightly illuminated 72 Tujia Stilted Buildings and Dayong Ancient City in the evening.

Enjoy the colourful night scenery and sample local specialities such as Tujia-style Sanxiaguo, offering an introduction to the distinctive traditions of western Hunan.

Day 7 | Zhangjiajie National Forest Park – Yuanjiajie

Spend the day exploring Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, one of the region’s most iconic natural attractions.

Travel to Yuanjiajie, the area associated with the floating mountain landscapes seen in Avatar.

See famous formations including Qiankun Pillar, the First Bridge Under Heaven and Mihun Terrace.

Ride the famous Bailong Elevator high into the mountains and walk along elevated paths surrounded by Zhangjiajie’s extraordinary sandstone peak forest.

Thousands of towering rock pillars and deep valleys create a dramatic landscape often compared to a traditional Chinese ink painting.

Day 8 | Yangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain & Golden Whip Stream

Continue exploring Zhangjiajie at a more relaxed pace.

Visit the natural stone formations of Yangjiajie, followed by the cloud-covered peak forests of Tianzi Mountain.

Continue through the scenic Ten-Mile Gallery, where unusual sandstone formations line the valley.

In the afternoon, walk beside Golden Whip Stream, a peaceful forest trail surrounded by clear water, lush vegetation and towering mountain scenery.

This gentler day offers time to appreciate the quieter side of Zhangjiajie’s natural landscape.

Day 9 | Tianmen Mountain & Fenghuang Ancient Town

Visit Tianmen Mountain, often regarded as one of the most spectacular mountains in western Hunan.

Ride the long mountain cableway above the valleys and admire the famous 99-Bend Road below.

Walk along the dramatic Glass Skywalk and Guigu Cliffside Path, then visit the enormous natural Tianmen Cave and the 999-step Stairway to Heaven.

In the afternoon, travel to Fenghuang Ancient Town.

After arrival, take a leisurely walk along the Tuojiang River and explore landmarks including Hongqiao Bridge, the stepping stones, Wanming Pagoda and the traditional riverside stilted houses.

As night falls, enjoy the beautifully illuminated ancient town and its romantic riverside atmosphere.

Day 10 | Fenghuang Ancient Town & Departure

Begin the final morning beside the Tuojiang River, when soft mist often creates a peaceful atmosphere around the historic town.

Spend time exploring Fenghuang’s old streets and lanes and visit the Former Residence of Shen Congwen.

You may also experience traditional Miao clothing photography, browse for local handicrafts and souvenirs, and sample regional specialities such as Xiangxi rice tofu and Miao-style sour fish soup.

In the afternoon, conclude the 10-day journey and begin your return trip, bringing home memories of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Changsha, Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang.

1. Deposit: Once you are ready to confirm your booking, a non-refundable planning deposit of USD 300 per person is required to start arranging your trip. This amount will be credited toward your total trip cost and deducted from the final balance.

2. Final Payment: The remaining balance must be paid 45 days prior to departure. For bookings made within 45 days of departure, full payment may be required at the time of booking confirmation. Payments can be made via credit card, bank transfer, WeChat Pay, or Alipay.
